Historic Holland House gardens set for programe of restoration and improvments.

Patrick Swan has been commissioned to manage the gardens of Holland House at Cropthorne, near Pershore in Worcestershire. These four acre gardens were largely created at the turn of the twentieth century, with part of the design attributed to Sir Edwin Lutyens, and contain a sunken herb garden, herbaceous border, rose garden, topiary and an extensive kitchen garden. The property, now run as a retreat and conference centre for the Diocese of Worcester, is a picture book English country manor and the gardens play a very important role in the life of the house.

" This place is a little known gem" Patrick says, " the quality of the original design coupled with a stunningly tranquil and beautiful setting makes this place unique." Patrick is to prepare a management plan for the whole garden, to cover the restoration of key features and also routine maintenence. He will then manage the implementation of this plan, working closely with the existing staff.

Another part of Patrick`s remit is to develop the open business at Holland House through garden focussed events such as courses and workshops. The revd. Ian Spencer, Warden of Holland House said " We are really excited to have someone with Patrick`s knowledge and experience on board and are looking forward to the full potential of these wonderful gardens being realised."

Keep posted to follow the progress of this exciting project!
